Born into poverty, caste oppression, and violence, Phoolan Devi was never supposed to matter. She became India’s most wanted outlaw — and then its most unlikely parliamentarian. Phoolan is a feature documentary about one woman’s extraordinary fight for justice and dignity, and her assassination in 2001 — a crime that remains unsolved.

Her Fight Is Not Ancient History

The injustices Phoolan Devi faced — sexual violence, child marriage, caste discrimination, and political silencing — are realities for millions of women today. This film exists to make sure her fight, and theirs, is never forgotten.
